Cora Lee (Milton) Hathcox

Mrs. Cora Lee “Toby” Milton Hathcox, age 96, passed away June 29, 2016 in Lakeland, Florida. A native of Macclenny, Florida , Toby was the youngest daughter of Anna Dell and Clarence Josephus Milton. She graduated as salutatorian of Macclenny High School’s Class of 1937. She served her country in World War II in the civilian Ground Observer Corps to watch for enemy planes invading Macclenny’s air space. After the war, she joined her husband to travel to various assignments across the U.S. In 1952, during the Korean War, she and her family traveled to Guam where they lived for two years. In 1959, they traveled to Japan for a three year assignment. After returning to the states, her husband retired, and the family moved to Lakeland, Florida, where their eldest daughter, only 14-years old, died of a heart defect. At 50 years old, she took on the responsibility of raising her youngest daughter’s infant girl on her own. She loved her family, social gatherings, gardening, walking, and Macclenny. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Joe, Clarence, Harold, Van, Lloyd, John, Bea, Alice and Ruth Milton, as well as her husband of 44 years, Major P.I. “Pete” Hathcox and her daughter, Dawn Hathcox. She is survived by her children: David (Miriam) Hathcox, Dianne Daugherty, and Rachel Carrera: her grandchildren, Kathy (Ricky) Boahnnon, David Hathcox, Jr., Jennifer Swanson, Christopher (Kelly) Daugherty, David Hathcox, III, Stephanie Carrera Daugherty, Jessica Dickinson and Jeremy Carrera: her great-grandchildren, Michael Hathcox, Victoria Bohannon, Anna Swanson, Elizabeth Bohannon, Mary Swanson, Julian Daugherty and Jocelyn Daugherty. Memorial services to honor the life of Mrs. Hathcox will be held 11 A.M. Thursday, July 7, in the Macclenny Church of Christ with Rev. Sam Kitchings officiating.
