Derek Andrew Newell Varnes

Mr. Derek Andrew Newell Varnes, 29, of Lake City, passed away suddenly on Monday, April 3, 2017 at the Shands Lake Shore Regional Medical Center in Lake City after a sudden accident. He was born in Lake City on October 22, 1987 to Carlton David Varnes and Margaret Newell Varnes. He has been a lifelong resident of Lake City and of the Baptist faith. He loved to install car radios and was always on the go. He lived life to the fullest and loved his family and friends; especially his baby girl Chloe. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather: Carlton Lamar Varnes, maternal grandfather: Herbert Jimmy Lee Newell, Sr., his step-grandfathers: Herman Eugene Pyle and Robert Earl Smith, Sr. and his uncle: James Anthony Smith.
 
He is survived by his loving daughter: Chloe Marie Varnes of Lake City; parents: David and Margaret Varnes of Lake City; twin brother: David Varnes of Lake City; paternal grandmother: Joyce Smith of Lake City and maternal grandmother: Frances Ruth Pyle; Uncles: Jimmy Newell and family of Alma, GA, Willie Pyle and family of Florida, Dale Varnes and family of Lake City, Bob Smith and family of Lake City and Bill Smith and Family of Lake City; Aunts: Mary Jane (David) Sherrod and family of Lake City, Scarlett Pyle and family of Lake City and Carol Varnes and family of Lake City; his pawpaw: Gary Simmons of Lake City along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members and friends also survive.
 
Funeral services for Mr. Varnes will be conducted on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 12 noon in the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Mareau officiating. Interment will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation from 10A.M. to 12 P.M. (two hours prior to the service) at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you consider donations to People State Bank to Mr. Carlton David Varnes for Derek’s daughter Chloe. After the service, the family will be gathering at the Deep Creek Community Center for Lunch and would like to invite all his friends back with them.
