Hazel Inez (Floyd) Robinson

August 12, 1921 ~ January 9, 2017 (age 95) 95 Years Old

Mrs. Hazel Inez Floyd Robinson passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on January 9, 2017, surrounded by her family. She was blessed to live independently to the end, with her poodle Belle and loving assistance from family and caregivers

Mrs. Robinson was born in Chester, Georgia to her late parents Wesley Herman and Christine Burch Floyd. She was an avid reader since childhood, and valedictorian of her senior class. She had a lifelong passion for her chosen profession of nursing. She earned a Registered Nurse degree at Middle Georgia Hospital in 1942, choosing to work as a hospital nurse throughout her career. She met her late husband, Dr. John James Robinson, while the two were working at hospitals in Dublin, Georgia. The family moved to a Chicago suburb for ten years, where this resilient daughter of the deep south learned to survive in heavy snow.  They transferred to Lake City in 1958. Mrs. Robinson returned to nursing at Lake Shore Hospital, where she retired after many years of service. Her final years were spent as relief Nursing Supervisor.

Throughout her life, Mrs. Robinson was devoted to her family and to her heritage as the descendent of colonists from Jamestown, VA. She was a forty-year member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She served as Honorary Regent of the Edward Rutledge Chapter, and nationally was a sustaining fund contributor and member of the Heritage Club. She was a member of the Cameo Club for multiple generations of one family active in the organization. Her genealogical research and passion for DAR brought many members of her family into DAR. She remained an active chapter member to her final day.

She was a longtime member of St. James Episcopal Church.

Mrs. Robinson is survived by her six children: Herman Robinson of St. Petersburg, Robert (Rebecca) Robinson of Blowing Rock, NC, Mary (Don) McBride of St. Petersburg, Susan (Gordon) Summers of Lake City, James (Marjorie) Robinson of Jacksonville, and Nancy Robinson of League City, TX. She was the proud grandmother to ten: Andrea Robinson; Travis McBride; Sam, Catherine, and Daniel Summers; Rex and Ryan Robinson; and Daphne Dodd, Olivia Robinson, and Peter Bowling. She is survived by her sister, Janet Floyd Wilkinson of Bryan, TX, nieces Rae Wilkinson Oldham and Bridget Wilkinson Burdan; and her first cousin Mizelle Harrison of Savannah, GA.

Mrs. Robinson elected cremation. Her memorial service will be on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 3 P.M. in the St. James Episcopal Church. Her ashes will be interred at a later date at the columbarium at St. James Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the St. James Episcopal Church Capital Campaign. Guerry Funeral Home, 2659 SW Main Blvd., Lake City, FL is in charge of the arrangements.
