His work experience began as a teenager working for Mr. John Brinkley, after graduation he worked construction with his uncle Aubrey Johnson, Glen St. Mary Nursery, Northeast Florida Hospital in warehouse, self-employed landscaping and then his present job as a landscaper for the Baker County School District. On February 14, 2009 Dwight married the love of his life. He waited late in life to be married and Dwight cherished his lovely bride taking care of her through her battle of colorectal cancer. He became diagnosed with cancer on January 8, 2016 with stage four esophageal cancer. He continued to take care of her even though he was sick himself. His undying love for her was just so amazing. Dwight enjoyed many things in life and whatever event he was doing at the time he gave his all 100%. His first love was football. He always wanted to play football and many of his nephews (Lonnie, Alvin, Wade, Hunter, Tucker, Chase, Trey, and Izaiah) played football and he coached, took stats or watched them from the stands. He took stats for the Touchdown Club from 1986 to 2008. He also served on the Touchdown Club Grievance Committee. Dwight’s second love was raising chickens and for many years he had various types of chickens. Another love was for gospel music. Dwight coordinated gospel music sings at First Baptist Church of Sanderson. He loved nature, wildlife, plants, and family time. Dwight lived in an area that has many different species of birds, turkeys, and deer. Every morning and evening he would feed the animals. Even break up wild turkeys from fighting. He had several different species of plants over the years and he kept one alive since 1985. Family was the most important part of his life and he would often say mama raised us to be loving and close family especially when we need one another. For every birthday and every Christmas he would give cards to his family members and even on his death bed he gave his sister Martha the last birthday gift.
