Douglas William Henningson, 81, of Lake City, Florida, passed away on Tuesday February 6, 2024, at the Lake City VA Medical Center Hospice from Lymphoma as a result of his exposure to Agent Orange during his service in Vietnam. He was born in East Orange, New Jersey to William Fredrick Henningson and Dagmar Katrina Henningson (Axman). Douglas attended Brick Township High School and studied mechanical engineering at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ. Douglas was preceded in death by his parents and uncle Frederick Axman and treasured friends Senator Sherrill "Pete" Skinner and W. Randy Hatch. Douglas was employed at various mining and construction companies in Arizona and moved to Branford in 1989 to work with Gypsum Environmental Services. After his tenure there he worked for The Lake City Reporter, Precast Design, Inc of Orlando, Florida Safety Council, Inc, and Munzy's Golf Co. He is survived by his life partner of 32 years Victoria Dingee Ellis and her son George Arthur Ellis, his wife Susan Ellis, grandson Christopher George Ellis, Bradenton FL and granddaughter Mary Bridget Gullion and her husband Andrew Theodore Gullion, Deland. Sons Joshua Douglas Henningson, Bremerton WA, and Jonathan Andrew Henningson, wife Nora Dummer and grandchildren Gideon Kerry Henningson and Fiona Rose Henningson and his sons mother Joan Kerry Applegate of Boynton Beach FI.
Services will be at Guerry Funeral Home, 2659 SW Main Bivd., Lake City Florida on February 22, 2024. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 6:00 P.M. with services to follow. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
