Mr. Barney Rowe Thomas, Jr., age 69, of Fort White, Florida passed away Friday, March 23, at his home with family by his side following an extended illness. He was born in Lake City, FL and lived in Jacksonville, FL before moving to Fort White, FL 40 years ago. He worked as a land surveyor with Lee and Associates of Lake City, FL for over 20 years until health forced his retirement. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served in the United States Army. While in the Army, he was awarded the prestigious Purple Heart. He was preceded in death by his parents Barney R. Thomas, Sr. and Pearl Thomas.
He is survived by his aunt, Shirley Thomas (Roy) Markham of Lake City, Florida; several cousins also survive. A graveside funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Thomas will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, March 26, at Green Cemetery, Columbia County, Florida with Rev. Veronica Thomas, Pastor of White Springs Congregational Church, officiating. Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00pm Sunday March 25, at GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, 2659 S.W.
