Mrs. Betty Jean Huggins, age 85, of Lake City, Florida died Friday, May 11, in the North Florida Regional Medical Center, Gainesville, Florida following a brief illness. Mrs. Huggins was a native of Braganza, Georgia and lived in Okeechobee, Florida before moving to Lake City, Florida in 1975. She was a homemaker and a charter member of the Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. She was a former church secretary and remained active in most women church activities and supported the Florida United Methodist Children’s Home. She embraced Relay of Life and enjoyed Thursday night card games with her friends. She was the widow of the late Julian Huggins and was preceded in death by her parents, Isbon Ben and Alice Fender Tomlinson.
She is survived by her three daughters, Vivian (Randy Wright) Pearce of Okeechobee, Florida, Nan (Gary) Mack of Williston, Florida and Marcia (Glenn) Altruda of New Port Richey, Florida: One son, Julian A. “Al” (Denise Lee) Huggins of Gainesville, Florida: One sister, Winona Allen of Folkston, Georgia: Seven grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren also survive.
A funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Huggins will be held at 11 A.M. Friday, May 18, at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with Pastor Kevin Hall officiating. A graveside funeral service will follow at 4 P.M. in Pineview Cemetery, Folkston, Georgia. Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 5 to 7 P.M.
