Mr. Charles Michael “Mike” Hammon, age 61, of Glen St. Mary, Florida died Tuesday, April 4, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Hammon was born in Louisville, Kentucky and lived in California and Macclenny before moving to Glen St. Mary, Florida 20 years ago. Mr. Hammon was employed as a jet mechanic with the U.S. Navy at Cecil Field, Jacksonville, Florida until discharged because of a medical disability in 1991 after 17 years of service. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He enjoyed painting and doing digital art work in his spare time. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Chester Hammon. He is survived by his wife, Cherry L Hammon of Glen St. Mary, Florida: His two daughters, Tabitha Zapata of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida and Michele (Tommy) Harper of Orange Park, Florida: His mother, Martha A. Hammon of Tampa, Florida: One sister, Susan Huffman of Tampa, Florida: Two grandchildren, Alexander Zapata and River Harper also survive. A memorial service to honor the life of Mr. Hammon will be held at 6 P.M. Monday, April 10, in the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home with Rev. Craig Young of Jacksonville, Florida officiating. Final disposition will be by cremation. A gathering and visitation for family and friends will be from 5 to 6 P.M.
