Cynthia Couch Obituary

Cynthia Marie Mitchell Couch was born June 13, 1940 in Syracuse, NY.

Cynthia passed away peacefully with family on December 17, 2018 at North Florida Regional Hospital.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life her husband of 57 years Herman Dexter Couch Jr., her parents Phillip O. Mitchell and Yvette Catherine  Leroux Mitchell as well as her brother Phil Mitchell.

She is survived by her sister Sharon Jill and brother Robert Mitchell, as well as her son Richard Couch, daughter Pamela Mammel, daughter Susan Pitman and son Scott Couch, with nine grandchildren; Philip Couch, Shane Pitman, Kevin Couch, Justin Pitman, Matthew Couch, Christopher Pitman, Jorja Couch, Max Munoz and Jacob Couch.

Cindy attended various Catholic schools in Syracuse, NY including St. Lucy’s, Blessed Sacrament and The Cathedral Academy in downtown Syracuse. At the age of 15, she moved to Orlando, FL and graduated from Boone High School in 1958.

Cindy started her medical career by attending Saint Vincent’s School of Nursing and graduated in 1961 as a Registered Nurse. Cindy excelled at a 40 year nursing career encompassing many hospitals across North Florida, culminating in her final location at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Lake City, Florida, where she retired in 2000 with twenty-five years of service.

While juggling a full-time job, and raising children, Cindy also heavily participated in the community as a Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout Den Mother to many.  She was an active school parent, very involved in all of her children’s academic achievements, sports and extracurricular activities.

Cindy was an avid, self-taught seamstress. She started sewing in nursing school and the day after graduation, walked down the aisle wearing her specially created wedding dress.  Cindy made both her daughters and daughter-in-law bridal gowns and numerous bridesmaids ensembles. She designed and created both of her daughter’s wardrobes from birth through to high school. Cindy moved on to designing and sewing quilts; finally settling on one-of-a-kind “ABC Baby Quilts”. She produced over 400 baby quilts since the early 1980”s.

Visitation and Rosary will be held from 6:00pm-8:00pm Friday, January 4, 2019 at Guerry Funeral Home, 2659 SW Main, U.S. 41 South, Lake City, FL

A funeral mass to celebrate the life of Cindy Couch will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Epiphany Catholic Church, with Father Robert Trujillo officiating.
