Mrs. Faye Claudine “Dean” Rhoden, age 86, of Macclenny, Florida died Saturday, July 21, in the Big Bend Hospice, Tallahassee, Florida, following a brief illness. Mrs. Rhoden was born in the Taylor community of Baker County and traveled with her husband during his military career. After his retirement, they moved back to Macclenny, Florida, in 1969. She then attended college and became a charter graduate of the University of North Florida, Jacksonville, Florida, with a Master’s Degree in Education. She taught school in the Baker County School System for 20 years until her retirement. She was a former president of the Macclenny Women’s Club and was Florida Woman of the Year. She also was a member of the Leona Knabb Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron, and Mother Advisor of the Order of the Rainbow Girls. She loved to travel, read, work in her garden, and was known for cooking the best fried chicken in Macclenny. She was preceded in death by her husband, Berry Floyd Rhoden, Sr., her son, Robert Rhoden, and her parents, Ray Leonard and Athena Irene Raulerson Brown.
She is survived by her two daughters, Connie (Tommy) McGlew of Macclenny, Florida, and Rebecca (Marshall) Ogletree of Tallahassee, Florida; her son, Berry (Kay) Rhoden, Jr. of St. Augustine Beach, Florida; four sisters, Nettie Ruth Brown of St. Augustine, Florida, Betty Madden of Anderson, South Carolina, Marjorie Dunn of Dothan, Alabama, and Gail Brown of Glen St. Mary, Florida; one brother, George “Bud” Brown of Palm Bay, Florida; 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren also survive.
A funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Rhoden will be held at 1 P.M. Wednesday, July 25, in the First Baptist Church, Macclenny, Florida, with Dr. Edsel Bone, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in North Prong Cemetery, Baker County, Florida. Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, July 24, at her church.
