Fred Colquitt Spivey

Mr. Fred Colquitt Spivey, age 86, of St. George, Georgia, passed away on October 22, at the Community Hospice Acosta Rue Center for Caring in Jacksonville, Florida. Mr. Fred was born on September 18, 1932, in Jacksonville, Florida, to the late Wilbur Bunny Spivey and the late Alma Carter Spivey.  After school, Mr. Spivey enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served our country as a veteran of the Korean War. After his service, he moved back home and went to work as a quality control supervisor for the Buffalo Tank Company of Jacksonville for 31 years until his retirement in 1983. In 1979, he moved from Jacksonville, FL to St. George, GA. In his spare time, Fred loved to garden, fish, and hunt. He is preceded in death by both parents.

Mr. Spivey is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Spivey of St. George, GA; six daughters, Debbie (Ricky) Crews of Jacksonville, FL, Sharon (Glynn) Thrift of Nahunta, GA, Elaine (Lonnie) Merrow of Jacksonville, FL, Patty (Nathan) Poppell of Odum, GA, Brenda Tomasetti of Folkston, GA, and Judy (Kenny) Sapp of Jacksonville, FL; one sister, Ms. Gwen McLeod of St. Augustine, FL; 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family also survive.

A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Spivey will be held on Thursday, October 25, at 1:00 pm at the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home in Macclenny, FL. The family will welcome friends for a visitation beginning at 12:00 (one hour before the service) at the funeral home. His interment will be at River Road Cemetery and Nassau County. Reverend James Conner, Pastor of New Life Church in St. George, and Reverend Richard Crews, associate Pastor of Believer’s Joy Church in Jacksonville, will be officiating the services.
