Mr. James “Jimmy” Gordon Johnson, age 72, of Glen St. Mary, Florida, passed away on Saturday, October 20, in the St. Vincent’s Riverside Hospice in Jacksonville, Florida, following an extended illness. Mr. Johnson had resided in Macclenny, Florida, all of his life. He worked for the Florida Department of Transportation in the soil department at their Lake City, FL, office for 38 years until his retirement in 2003. He was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Johnson also served our country by enlisting with the Florida National Guard for 6 years. In his spare time, he loved hunting, fishing, telling jokes, Gator football and chasing his grandchildren to all of their activities. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Lester and Mary Wilkerson Johnson, two sisters, Malvene Teegardin and Mary Francis Hodges and three grandchildren, Brandon Johnson, Matthew Adams and Beau Adams.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kathleen “Kathy” Johnson of Glen St. Mary, Florida; his daughter, Stacie (John) Adams of Glen St. Mary, Florida; his son, Craig (Julie) Johnson of Baxter, Florida; one sister, Marie (B.J.) Cannon of Macclenny, Florida; nine grandchildren, Ashley (Les) Batts, Wade, Sydney and Will Johnson, John, Corey, Dalton, Lili and Darcie Adams; two great-grandchildren, Les and Riley Batts; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
A funeral mass to honor the life of Mr. Johnson will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, October 23, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Ed Booth and Deacon Ken Cochran officiating. Interment will be in Macedonia Cemetery, Baker County, Florida. A rosary service will be at 5:30 pm on Monday (October 22), followed by a visitation for friends and family from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, U.S. 90 East, Macclenny, Florida. www.guerryfuneralhome.net
