Mr. John B. “Jack” Gordon flew west October 7, 2017 at Good Samaritan Assisted Living Facility, Dowling Park, Florida with is family by his side. He is survived by his spouse, Shirley Reese-Gordon: His son, Gregory S. Gordon (Carol): his daughter, Diane Gordon Lamothe (Mark) and 3 granddaughters, Meagan and Kelsey Lamothe and Graceann Gordon: his sister, Carol Bitting of Erie. He is predeceased by his parents, Harry and Hildred Gordon, and his wife of 46 years, Arlene W. Gordon.  

Jack was born in Bloomington, Ind. February 25, 1932. He was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School, Erie, Pa. and served in the Army during the Korean War. He attended Embry Riddle Aviation Academy in Miami, Florida to pursue an aviation career. He was an avid pilot as he flew Corporate in the Rockford, IL area for 12 years.  He applied to Eastern Airlines in 1966 and was offered a position as a pilot. He retired from Eastern Airlines in 1986 and flew for Turkish Airlines for several years, until Arlene fell ill.

Jacks’ favorite plane at Eastern was the 727. He always felt privileged to fly his own Navion Rangemaster and a PT22.  One could hear him often say, “I had a hobby and made a living at it”. His passion was flying, boating, scuba diving and camping in his tag along camper.  He moved to Cannon Creek Airpark in 2005 with Shirley to have his plane in his back yard. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Lake City, Fla., EAA, American Navion Society, Midwest Navioneers, SNAG, Suwannee River Antique Club and Silver Falcons (retired Eastern Pilots).His memorial service will be held October 28th, 2017 at Noon (12 P.M.) at the First Presbyterian Church, 697 S.W. Baya Avenue, Lake City, Fla. with Rev. Ken Goodrich officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Erie Memorial Gardens, Erie, Pa. A visitation and gathering with the family will be from 11 A.M. to 12 P.M. (one hour before services) in the church fellowship hall.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity. GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, 2659 S.W. Main Blvd. Lake City, Florida is in charge of arrangements.
