Mr. Lawrence W. “Larry” Dupree, age 70, of Glen St. Mary, Fla. died Sunday, June 15, in the Ed Fraser Memorial Hospital, Macclenny, Fla. following an apparent heart attack. Larry had resided in Macclenny and Glen St. Mary, Fla. all of life. He worked for many years in management with Woolverton Oldsmobile, Jacksonville, Fla. He was a member of the Glen Baptist Church of Glen St. Mary, Fla. He was a great father, adored his children and grandchildren, loved coaching Little League and was an avid gardener and loved the outdoors. Larry was a graduate of Baker County High School Class of 1960 and received a scholarship to play football at the University of Florida. Larry played for Florida from 1962-1964, earning All-SEC honors three times and received All-American honors his senior year and was Captain of the 1964 Gator football team. He led the SEC in rushing in 1962, was a member of the University of Florida Hall of Fame, a member of the Florida-Georgia Hall of Fame and a graduate of the University of Florida. He was the recipient of the Forest K. Ferguson Award which is presented to the "senior football player who displays outstanding leadership, character and courage."  He was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals of the NFL in 1965. Larry never missed a game at Florida despite knee problems in his senior year. He was one of the toughest running backs to play football at Florida. He will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Dorothy Thrift Dupree and his infant baby, Lisa Dupree. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Robin Dupree of Glen St. Mary, Fla.: He is survived by four sons, Shannon Dupree of Glen St. Mary, Fla., Kellen (Kisha) Dupree of Macclenny, Fla., Logan (Caitlyn) Dupree of Lake County, Fla. and Gary Carter of Macclenny, Fla.: One daughter, Abby (Clayton) Harris of Maxville, Fla.: One sister, Beth (Micha) Moody of Jacksonville, Fla.: Ten grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 A.M. Thursday, June 19, in the Glen Baptist Church, Glen St. Mary, Fla. with Rev. Richard Fish officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Macclenny, Fla. Visitation will be 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday, June 18, at GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, 420 East Macclenny Avenue, Macclenny, Fla. Active pallbearers will be Earl Knabb, Jr., Chris Burnham, Gerald Ray Rhoden, Mike Combs, Nick Harrison and Ronnie Harvey. www.guerryfuneralhome.net
