Major Richard “Dickie” Chapman Hodgkins, age 83, of Clermont, Florida died Sunday, April 8, in the Cornerstone Hospice & Palliative Care Center, Clermont, Florida following an extended illness. He was born in Daytona Beach, Florida and resided in Lake City, Florida for 15 years and St. George Island, Florida before moving to Clermont, Florida in 2014. He served in the U.S. Army for 24 years and retired in 1976 with the rank of Major. He was the Director of Finance for the St. Johns County School Board for over 15 years. He was a graduate of Columbia High School Class of 1952, a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church, Lake City, Florida and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He is survived by his wife, Joyce A. Hodgkins of Clermont, Florida: His daughter, Vikki (Keith) Hodgkins-Beears of Windermere, Florida: His son, CDR Richard E. (Lisa) Hodgkins of St. Augustine, Florida: Two grandchildren, Samantha Beears and Caleigh Hodgkins and several nieces and nephews also survive. A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 11:30 A.M .Monday, April 23, in the Jacksonville National Cemetery, Jacksonville, Florida. Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 3 to 5 P.M. Sunday, April 22, at Guerry Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Thomas of Zephyrhills, Florida speaking words of comfort to the family.
