Mrs. Phyllis Mariea Thornton Simmons, age 74, of Hahira, Georgia died Monday, Aug. 12, in the South Georgia Medical Center, Valdosta, Georgia following an extended illness. Mrs. Simmons was born in Rome, Georgia and resided in Macclenny, Florida for over 50 years before moving to Hahira, Georgia six years ago. She was a homemaker and enjoyed watching the Florida Gators, fishing and her flowers. She was preceded in death by her parents, Preston and Ida Mae Womack Gilstrap. She is survived by her daughter, Jessica Sharp of Sanderson, Florida: Three sons, Joseph H. (Michelle) Thornton and Andy (Sammie) Thornton both of Hahira, Georgia and Joshua (Amanda) Simmons of Raiford, North Carolina: Three sisters, Patricia ( Joseph) Thornton of Hampton, Virginia, Louise Fish and Anita Fish both of Glen St. Mary, Florida: 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren also survive. A funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Simmons will be held at 2 P.M. Thursday, Aug. 15, in the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home with Rev. J.C. Lauramore, Pastor of New Hope Church, officiating. Interment will be in Macedonia Cemetery, Baker County, Florida. Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 6 to 8 P.M.
