Mr. Thomas Walter Doyle, 80, of Glen St. Mary, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2017. Tom was born to the late Joseph and Clella Doyle August 23, 1936 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Tom grew up in Indiana with eight sisters and brothers. At the age of 9, his mother passed away and he spent several years in a Catholic orphanage with one of his brothers and five of his sisters. Upon graduating from high school he joined the U.S. Navy and earned a Medical Technologist degree at the Bethesda Naval Hospital. In 1957 he met the love of his life, Pat, whom he married July 4, 1957. After a short time in Great Lakes, Illinois and Gaithersburg, Maryland, Tom and Pat moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where he resided until retiring in the Georgia Bend and Glen St. Mary. Tom’s passion was his family.
His greatest enjoyment in life was clearly when he and Pat spent time with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Tom was a man of deep love for God. He was devoted to his Catholic faith and took initial steps to become a Priest, was a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus, a member of the choir, a Catechism teacher, Parish Council member and helped maintained the cleanliness of the church for 16 years.
Tom was preceded in death by granddaughter Hayley Ann Doyle, brothers, Bill and Jim Doyle, sister, Joanie Price and sister-in-law Hiro Doyle, half-sister Lynn Doyle and half-brother Daniel Doyle. He is survived by a brother Jack (Patty) Doyle and sisters Ann (Norman) McCarty, Rita Summers, Marilyn (Don) Kennedy and Donna (John) Hasty, and sister-in-law Ruth Doyle. Son:, Kevin (Carla) Doyle, Gary (Anne) Doyle, Mark (Debi) Doyle, Andy Doyle and Shannon Doyle; grandchildren: Misty (Derek) Tippins, Kevin Joseph (Cheryl) Doyle, Jacob (Jamie) Doyle, Jordan Doyle, Brian (Carly) Doyle, Christopher (Amanda) Doyle, Greg (Grace) Doyle, Jamie Hellemn, Kara (Curtis) Balfour and Stacy (Michael Collingwood) Doyle; great grandchildren: Ryder, Baylee Rose, Lilleigh, Ryleigh, Charlie, Bryce, Braxton and Maddie and five yet to be born who will surely miss meeting
their beloved Grandpa.
Visitation will be held 6 to 8 PM, Friday, July 28, 2017 at Guerry Funeral Home, 420 E. Macclenny Ave., Macclenny, Florida with a vigil service at 7:00 PM conducted by Deacon Ken Cochran. A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 29, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1143 West Macclenny Avenue, Macclenny, Florida with Father Slawomir Bielasiewicz officiating. Burial to follow in Arlington Park Cemetery, 6920 Lone Star Rd., Jacksonville, FL with Brother Gene Burnsed officiating.
