Mr. George Wayne Griffis, age 82, of Macclenny, Florida died Monday, July 1, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Griffis had resided in Macclenny, Florida all of his life. Mr. Griffis was sales manager for Martha White and Dixie Lily in north Florida and south Georgia and had been a part of Martha White’s Food operation since the company came to the Sunshine State in 1967. He joined Martha White in November 1967 as an assistant on a delivery truck. Over the years, Wayne’s selfless attitude propelled him through the company’s ranks. In 1987 he was the recipient of the Cohen T. Williams Outstanding Employee Award. He also was co-owner of the Broomsage Hunting Preserve of Callahan, Florida and loved fishing, quail and turkey hunting. He was a member of the Christian Fellowship Temple of Macclenny, Florida. Mr. Griffis was preceded in death by his parents, Ernie and Nellie Osteen Griffis and four siblings, D.L. Griffis, Frank Griffis, Allen Griffis and Juanita Conner. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Doris C. Griffis of Macclenny, Florida; Four sons, Clayton Paul (Patsy) Griffis of Sanderson, Florida, Derrick Wayne Griffis and Skye Wayne Griffis of Macclenny, Florida and David William Pendleton of Jacksonville, Florida; Three sisters, Lorita Conner of Callahan, Florida, Ernie Mae Griffis and Bonnie Varnes of Macclenny, Florida; Two brothers, Harold Griffis of Macclenny, Florida and Joe Griffis of Glen St. Mary, Florida; Six grandchildren, Cari Griffis, Klate Griffis, Klint Griffis, Kole Griffis, Tyler Pendleton and David Pendleton; Four great-grandchildren, Madison, Maddox, Mackensey and Kayde. A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Griffis will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, July 6, in the Christian Fellowship Temple with Rev. David Thomas and Rev. Eddie Griffis officiating. Interment will be in Macedonia Cemetery, Baker County, Florida. Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 6 to 8 P.M. Friday, July 5, at the church.
