Mrs. Annie Ruth Burnsed of Glen St. Mary, FL, left us suddenly and peacefully on March 24, 2021, at the age of 82 after an unexpected illness. Annie Ruth, Our Granny, was born October 27, 1938, in Glen St. Mary, FL to William and Bernice Crawford and spent her entire life in Baker County. She married J.L. Burnsed on January 14, 1954 after they met at a square dance in 1953. A loving wife, mother, and homemaker, Annie Ruth was a true matriarch. Although she was a remarkable cook, her greatest joy was not the cooking but the serving of her family and friends, preparing abundant meals, making sure nobody left hungry, especially during the holidays and family reunions. Annie Ruth never met a stranger, made everybody feel like family, and loved having her family together. She loved going fishing, particularly with J.L. as her favorite fishing partner, on warm weekends at the Okefenokee Swamp. She relished seeing the leaves change their brilliant colors at the Smoky Mountains during the fall and indulged in listening to bluegrass music and watching westerns on TV in what little spare time she had. She enjoyed canning vegetables and often could be found shelling peas in her rocking chair on her back porch. Annie Ruth is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, J.L.; son, Hank Burnsed; parents, William and Bernice Crawford; and parents-in-law, Lester and Dollie Mae Burnsed. She is survived by her daughter, Terri (Ricky) Harrison; daughter-in-law, Faye Burnsed; six grandchildren, Steven (Mark) Smiley, William Burnsed, Traci Lyn (Tommy) Blackburn, Rebecca Sue Smiley, Damien (Kim) Burnsed, and Buck (Kristin) Smiley; and eleven great-grandchildren, Sarah Leigh, James, Shaun, Ryan, Alyssa, Bridglynn, Alayna, Brenda Lou, Brylee, Karma, Amelia, all whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by her brother, Kelly (Evelyn) Crawford of Glen St. Mary; brother-in-law, Robert (Sue) Burnsed of Macclenny; sister-in-law, Lois Jean Canaday of Moniac, GA; and many other extended family members.Visitation and gathering with the family will be Saturday, March 27, from 6 to 8 P.M. at Taylor Church, 26389 County Rd. 250, Sanderson, FL 32087.
