Mrs. Barbara Ann Briscoe, age 89, of Lake City, Florida died Thursday, May 26, in the Bedrock Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, Lake City, Florida following an extended illness. Mrs. Briscoe was born in Atlanta, Georgia and resided in Lake City, Florida for many years. She worked as a school teacher in the elementary schools of Columbia county for over 20 years and was awarded teacher of the years at Summers Elementary School. She also taught school in Orange Park, Florida before moving back to Lake City. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lake City, Florida, was a graduate of the University of Miami and held a master’s degree in education from Nova University. She also was a member of the D.A.R. and Delta Kappa Gamma Society of the National Education Association. She also was an avid sports fan who loved football, baseball, basketball and even had her own subscription to Sports Illustrated Magazine.She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Richard “Dick” Briscoe and her parents, Floyd and Lucille Arnold. She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Robert) Eadie of Lake City, Florida; two sons, Rick (Quin) Briscoe of St. Augustine, Florida and Jim Briscoe of Jacksonville Beach, Florida; four grandchildren, Erica Eadie-Turner, Angela (Kevin) Jackson, Jason Briscoe (Toni McDowell) and Ashley Briscoe; five great-grandchildren, Ty, Sophie and Knox Jackson, Eadie and Lucy Kate Turner. A funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Briscoe will be held at 12 P.M. Tuesday, May 31, in the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home with Pastor Aaron Ankeny of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 11 to12 P.M. Tuesday (one hour before services). The entombment service will be held at 1 P.M. Wednesday, June 1, in the Westview Cemetery, 1680 Westview Drive S.W., Atlanta, Georgia.
