Betty Jo Howard Toney

Mrs. Betty Jo Howard Toney, age 85 currently of Dade City, Florida died April 12th , 2022 in Zephyrhills, Florida. Betty Toney was born in Hoboken, Georgia on September 22, 1936 to parents Seth Easterling Howard and Myrtle R Haggins. She was the second of three siblings and spent her early years in and around Mount Pleasant, Georgia in the household of her paternal grandfather Seth E Howard Sr with her brothers Carlos and Bobby surrounded by a large extended family of uncles, aunts and cousins . She also remembered fondly, the significant time spent in Baltimore, Maryland with her Uncle Bob and Aunt Mary who were childless and treated Betty like their own. She completed her primary education in Jessup, Georgia where she was a member of the basketball team. She then moved to Jacksonville, Florida to begin her adult life where she met and married the love of her life, Robert D Toney Sr. Bob and Betty were married on July 19, 1957 and were married till Bob’s passing, a few weeks shy of 65 years. In the waning years of Bob’s life, Betty devoted herself to being the ultimate caretaker and worked tirelessly to provide for his comfort and every need. She is survived by her son Robert Douglas (Doug) Toney Jr., and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.

Throughout her adult life, she worked in and out of the home, and together with Bob, cofounded Angel Aqua Company in Macclenny, Florida.  Betty was a devout woman of God who served the Lord in various capacities including as a Sunday School teacher and deacon’s wife for over 40 years. She loved to garden and enjoyed fishing with her husband and spent many hours on the water with Bob at various angling locations across the state of Florida. Betty was proud of and adored her Howard/Horton family. In her final years, Betty discovered social media wherein she could keep up with and communicate with so many of her beloved aunts and cousins.

A graveside funeral service to honor and celebrate the life of Betty Toney will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Macclenny Florida at 11 a.m. on April 19th, 2022.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be submitted to the charity of your choice with a fond remembrance of the strong, feisty, outspoken lady Betty was up until the very end.
