Charlene Virginia Villasor Mommer April 16, 1937 – February 23, 2019 GO GATORS!!! This is the story of Charlene Virginia Villasor (Wilkinson). If you knew Charlene, you know she gave more than she had – and even more of her heart. That is, if you were on her good side! She didn’t take any &$*% from anyone, no matter how big they were. And to her, everyone is Gigantic! Over the past few years, she was able to add a few more ‘MOMMER-ISMS’ and ‘Nicknames’ to her list: • What will be will be! • Up Schit creek without a paddle! • Hop-A-Long • I-Hop • Gerald… her belly buddy Charlene’s story starts on April 16, 1937, the youngest of the bunch. With over 9 siblings, the house was full! Brought into this world through love by Honey and Mattie Wilkinson, born in Macclenny, FL and lived out at the ‘OLD PLACE’ off Deerfield Road. The Wilkinson boys held the honor of being a part of the inaugural Baker County football team. Mommer wouldn’t be left out, she practiced with her brothers at home and broke her nose, but kept on playing. She was, and will always be ‘One Tough Cookie’! She was a tomboy, as if you couldn’t tell. If it wasn’t football season, you could find her at the local pond or RR trestle where she would be out fishing for bream, bass, catfish… anything she could get to bite that day. Charlene loved her some dog tracks, slot machines, frog legs, popcorn shrimp, fried cheek’n, catfish… and above all, her HOT COFFEE! Never one for cooking, her biscuits were one of her children’s favorite toys and if you tried to eat them – better validate your dental insurance first. You may recall mom’s biscuits from the Beverly Hillbillies where mom got her first inspiration. But above all, Charlene loved her family. Charlene met Luis Satinitigan Villasor set up by family friends in Virginia. Luis was a sharp dressed man from the Philippine island of Cebu. Nine short months following their initial date, they would be wed. Although they grew up in very different countries over 9100 miles from each other fate had brought them together. After being gainfully employed for, um, a REALLY long time at Northeast Florida State Hospital, she knew she was prepared to raise 4 children. Lisa (a.k.a. Pisa), Lori, Lou Ann (Poo), and Luis (Bubba/Bubber). Charlene loved her kids fiercely and raised them to be hardworking and independent. And although Charlene put on a tough act she would melt in an instant when she spoke to her grandchildren: Chrissy, Sarah, Jessica, Jamie, Joshua, Greg, Nicholas (Nick), and Ayden (Addy). With all the children living in 7 different states – Florida, Texas, Tennessee, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, and Alabama Charlene stayed close with phone calls, many visits, vacations and lots of pictures. Charlene touched so many lives – you could see this by the smiles in the final days, the stories of recent and a history long ago. The photos, the stories, and the feeling of love she left behind will never be forgotten – rather grow and remind the fortunate few of how they should love while they are here. With everything you have, whether it be a lot or a little – and without caring what you look like. She taught people how to laugh, not only at jokes and snarky Mommer-isms, but also at yourself. That laughter with family and friends is good no matter where it comes from, or where it goes. Charlene, Chain, Daughter, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister… Mommer. Forever we will remember the race on the Fort Clinch Pier… the 3 hour trips to gymnastics practice, those biscuits.. oh, those biscuits. You are already missed, but will never be forgotten. All our love. A funeral service to honor the life of Charlene will be held at 10am on Wednesday February 27 in the First Baptist Church, Maxville, Florida with Rev. Richard Fish, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Long Branch Cemetery, Clay County, Florida. Visitation and gathering with family and friends will be from 6 to 8 P.M.
