Mr. Earl Willard Mattox, Sr., age 69, of Sanderson, Florida died Saturday, April 3, following a sudden illness. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida and resided in Macclenny, Florida before moving to Sanderson, Florida in 2004. He was employed as a correctional officer with the New River Correctional Facility, Raiford, Florida for over 20 years. He was a member of the Sanderson Congregational Methodist Church and an Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam War. He enjoyed walking and taking care of his palm tree farm. He was preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Emma Green Mattox, his brothers, Joe, Tom, Troy and Ernest Mattox. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Joyce F. Mattox of Sanderson, Florida: his daughter, Michelle Mattox of Lake Butler, Florida: his son, Earl W. Mattox, Jr. of Sanderson, Florida: his step-son, Mike (Denise) Eiserman of Macclenny, Florida: one sister, Pam (Dallas) Dinkins of Crestview, Florida: two brothers, Dread Mattox, Sr of Macclenny, Florida and James (Carmelita) Mattox of Lake City, Florida: six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive. A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Mattox will be held at 3 P.M. Wednesday, April 7, in the Christian Fellowship Church, Macclenny, Florida with Rev. David Thomas and Rev. Tim Thomas officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Creek Cemetery, Sanderson, Florida. Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 2 to 3 P.M.
