Mr. Emory Loyd “Buddy” Alford, age 74, of Lake City, Florida passed on Saturday, Jan. 21, in the HCA North Florida Hospital, Gainesville, Florida following a brief illness. He was born November 26, 1948 in Lake City, Florida to Clarence Loyd Alford and Edna Mae Proveau Alford. He graduated from Columba High School Class of 1966 and joined the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War. He was a life member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans. He retired from the Florida Department of Corrections with 30 years of service. He was a member of the Parkview Baptist Church. Survivors include his sister, Linda C. (Bardin) Summerall of Lake City, Florida; his niece, Leila C. Harrington; his nephew, Dylan Adams; three great-nieces, Callie Rose Harrington, Marleigh Mae Adams and Elliana Adams; two great-nephews, John Daniel Harrington, III and Hayden Adams and numerous cousins survive. A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Alford will be held at 11 A.M. Friday, Jan. 27, in the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Tatem, Pastor of Parkview Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Lake City, Florida. Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 10 to 11 A.M. Friday (One hour before services) at GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, 2659 S.W. Main Blvd., Lake City, Florida. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
