Mrs. Gloria Whitty Prevatt, age 96, of Baldwin, Florida died Saturday, June 13, in the Baptist Medical Center Downtown, Jacksonville, Florida following a brief illness. She was a native of Buffalo, New York and resided in Jacksonville, Florida before moving to Baldwin, Florida in 1953. She was a school teacher and taught in the Baldwin public schools for over 37 years. She was a member of the Baldwin United Methodist Church and Sunday school teacher for 55 years. She was a graduate of Florida State College for Women (FSU Class of 1945) and earned her Master’s Degree from the University of Florida in 1947. She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star and also loved to read and tell stories to her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey G. and Edith K. Smith and her late husbands, S. C. Whitty and Wilbert Prevatt and three deceased grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Alan) Atha of Monroe, Georgia: three sons, Keith (Carolyn) Whitty of Bryceville, Florida, Michael (Deborah) Whitty of Baldwin, Florida and Shelley (Vicki) Whitty of Mershon, Georgia: 14 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren also survive. A funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Prevatt will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday, June 17, in the First Baptist Church, Maxville, Florida with Rev. Phillip Worthington of Hazlehurst, Ga. officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, Jacksonville, Florida. Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 6 to 8 P.M.
