Harold Herndon

Mr. Henry Harold Herndon, age 80, of Lake City, Florida died Sunday, Jan. 17, in the Shands at University of Florida Hospital, Gainesville, Florida following an extended illness. He worked as a quality control specialist for 44 years with Purina Mills and Land of Lakes Company, Lake City, Florida until his retirement. Harold graduated from Columbia High School in 1958 and received his degree in Forestry from Lake City Community College Forest Ranger School. He served six years with the Florida National Guard. His greatest love was for the Lord and was a member of the Lake City Church of Christ where he served as an elder for 40 years. He loved his family and led them spiritually and physically all of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry Herndon and Mary Lois Crawford Herndon. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Linda Harrell Herndon of Lake City, Florida: six children, Gary (Darlene) Hart, Tim Herndon, Brenda (Mike) Rich and Andy (Jessica) Herndon all of Lake City, Florida, Kim (Ricky) Clark of Liberty, S.C. and Penni (Chris) Morris of Jackson, Tennessee: two sisters, Linda (Everett) Crews and Velma (Robert) Dortch both of Lake City, Florida: one brother, David (Jo Ann) Herndon of Lake City, Florida: 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchldren and a  host of nieces and nephews that were dear to his heart also survive. He also served over 150 foster care children in his home. A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Herndon will be held at 11 A.M. Wednesday, Jan. 20, in the Lake City Church of Christ with Minister Ryan Tuten and Minister T.J. Gifford officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Columbia County, Florida.
