James "Jimmie" Davis Obituary

Mr. James “Jimmie” Davis was born to Josie and Mary Crews Davis on November 26th, 1933 in Taylor, Florida. He was the oldest of 12 children which led to an early exit from formal education after 3 days of his 8th grade year. Working beside his father in the pulpwood business as well as the Moonshine industry taught him to prosper later in his own businesses. Jimmie owned and operated a gas station, a grocery store, and a successful long haul trucking company. In his later years Jimmie enjoyed most of all, spending time with the love of his life Nina Davis of more than 53 years and telling stories to friends and family about his moonshine days and bragging on his million miles hauling freight throughout the United States Jimmie understood that time and tides wait on no one and retired in 1990 and went on to pursue an interest in old cars. This led him to travel the United States to add to his extensive collection of antique cars. More important than even his love for old cars was his love for God. He was a man of God attending church faithfully as well as teaching Sunday school for 18 years. Jimmie always emphasized the importance of serving God in everyday life to everyone. Jimmie was called home to be with his heavenly father on August 5, 2022 where he is now rejoicing with family and friends that preceded him in death. Jimmie is preceded in death by his parents, Josie and Mary Davis, daughter, June Altman, step-son, George Rhoden, son in laws, Arthur Altman and Larry Turk, brother, Coy Davis. Sisters, Joyce Herald, Janice Jordan, and Marilyn Brown, and granddaughter, Amy Stavely. He is survived by his loving wife, Nina Davis: son, Eddie Davis (Tommie Sue) of Glen St. Mary, FL: daughters, Eileen Stavely (Neal) and Teresa Turk, both of Glen St. Mary, FL: daughter in law, Janice Rhoden of Glen St. Mary, FL: four brothers, Morris Davis (Jo) and Richard Davis (Sylvia) both of Live Oak, FL, Josie Davis (Pam) and Larry Davis (Sharon) both of Glen St. Mary, FL: three sisters, Eteyle Charron of Macclenny, FL, Clarice Green (Gil) of Glen St. Mary, FL, and Cherry Barber (Ed) of Maccleny, FL: thirteen grandchildren and numerous great- grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and great-great-great grandchildren also survive.
