Janet Rou Obituary

Janet Crosby Rou of High Springs went home to be with Jesus on September 2, 2021. Born on December 21, 1945 in Ocala to Roy and Inez Crosby, she grew up in Fernandina, Trenton, and Lake City. Janet graduated from Columbia High School in 1963 and Florida State University in 1967 with a BA in Library Science, where she was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. She met Donnie while interning in Orlando in January 1967 and they married in November. In 1976, their family moved to High Springs where she shared her love of reading with thousands of students at High Springs Elementary/Community School for 30 years as the Library Media Specialist. Even after retirement, she was blessed by her work with students through the HAWKS Mentoring Program.

As a member of High Springs First United Methodist Church, Janet served as President of United Methodist Women, Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Leader, Tuesday’s Angels Leader, and as a Shepherd Card Writer. She was a Girl Scout, inspiring her to establish Brownie Troop 181 in 1977. Until she was diagnosed with Glioblastoma in 2014, she was an active member of Seminole Boosters, Delta Kappa Gamma International Association for Women Educators, Alachua County Retired Educators Association, The Junior League of Gainesville, a local bridge club, and several ladies travel groups.

Janet will forever be remembered for her love of Christ and service to others.

Janet was a loving wife, mother, and Nana. She is survived by her dedicated husband of 53 years, Donnie, their three children, Elise Thrash (Jay), Ellen Martin (Ryan), and Bryce Rou (Terra), and five grandchildren, Collin and Andrew Thrash, Crosby and Jack Martin, and Brody Rou. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Carlton.

A memorial service will be held on Thanksgiving Weekend, Friday, November 26th at 3 PM at The First United Methodist Church, High Springs, FL. Arrangements are by Guerry Funeral Home, 2659 SW Main Blvd. Lake City, FL 32025
