Johnny Tyson Obituary

Mr. John “Johnny” Tyson, Jr., age 56, of Glen St. Mary, FL passed away on Wednesday, March 15th in Gainesville, Fl. He went to be with his Lord and savior with his loved ones by his side after a long and courageous fight with cancer. Mr. Johnny was born in Jacksonville, Florida and lived his entire life in Baker County. As many people know, Mr. Johnny was very involved and loved anything to do with baseball and softball. He coached for 25 years and would have continued to coach if his health hadn’t have stopped him. He has many accomplishments coaching including taking a softball and baseball team both to the Little League State Championship and coaching also allowed him to travel to Omaha, Nebraska, Cooperstown, New York, and everywhere in between. Coaching wasn’t exactly about the actual sport to Mr. Johnny; it was an opportunity to change a kid’s life and prepare them for the future. He also thoroughly enjoyed racing and anything to do with trucks or cars. He raced cars himself and always was working on one or the other in his spare time. He worked for Stone Transportation for 20 plus years and enjoyed hunting, being an avid member and board member of the Cummers Pastor Hunting Club. He was also a member of the Christian Fellowship Temple. One of the most important things in his life was spending time with his family and being with his grandchildren. Mr. Johnny was a one-of-a-kind man that truly never met a stranger and would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need. His main goal in life was to see everyone succeed. He will be remembered and truly missed by his family and many many friends.

Mr. Tyson is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Oliver and Loretha; Maternal grandparents, Alfred and Earlie; and his son, Daryl Tyson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Windy Tyson of Glen St. Mary; Two sons, Travis (Ashley) “Tiny” Tyson of Glen St. Mary, FL, and C.J. (Sarah) Hunt of Macclenny, FL; One daughter, Rebecca (Ben) Combs of Taylor, Fl; Parents, John and Hazel Tyson Sr. of Hawthorne, FL; One sister, Tammie (Dave) Humphrey of Jacksonville, FL; and nine grandchildren, Kaitleigh Combs, Rayleigh Combs, Kaylee Rogers, Ryleigh Rogers, Paisley Barton, Lane Tyson, Luke Tyson, Brayden Combs, and  Olivia Hunt.
