Lillian Coffin Obituary

Lillian McGlew Coffin, 99, received her heavenly reward peacefully on October 24, 2023 with family members by her side at River Garden Hebrew Home, Jacksonville, FL. She lived a blessed, long, full life overcoming several serious medical challenges.She was born March 29, 1924 in Madison County Florida on Cherry Lake. She graduated from Jasper High School and specialized training for wartime service in Ocala, FL. She met the love of her life, Al Coffin, during World War II at a USO function. He was stationed at a gun battery located at Atlantic Beach, FL. She worked with the U.S. Corp of Engineers in Jacksonville, FL. When he received orders for the Pacific Theater they decided to marry. After his wartime service he returned in 1946 and they started their lives together in Northeast Florida. Lillian was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Macclenny, FL. She served as a member of the Baker County Advisory Committee Council on Aging. A former member of Wesconnett Baptist Church, Jacksonville, FL and church secretary from 1957 to 1968. She was co-owner of A&L Truck and Trailer Rentals, Jacksonville, Florida from 1968 to 1975. A former member of Fayette Baptist Church, Fayette, ME. She was preceded in death by her husband Almond Dexter Coffin, her parents, Arthur Chester McGlew and Lillie Ottice Dempsey McGlew, brothers, Samuel McGlew (Vida), Arthur McGlew (Edie), Elmer ‘Jack’ McGlew (Barbara) and Richard ‘Bill’ McGlewand sister, Alpha Rawls (Auby). She is survived by her daughter, Carol Stroud (Mark): son, Roderick Coffin (Teresa): brother, JohnT. McGlew (Connie): grandchildren, Ryan Coffin, Bethany Stroud, James Stroud, Amy Cassels (Wes), Paul Stroud (Amelia), great grandchildren Anna Burr (Dale), Kaylee Cassels, Caden Cassels, Stephanie Cassels, Nate Cope, Chase Cassels, Elena Cassels, Camden Stroud, Riley Stroud, Kinsley Stroud, Burris Voight, Gracie Stroud and Gideon Stroud: great- great-grandchild, Eleanore Katherine Burr. She loved and enjoyed her dear friend Deanna and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services to honor the life of Ms. Coffin will be held Saturday October 28, 2023 at 11 A.M. in the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home, 2659 SW Main Blvd., Lake City, FL. Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 10 to 11 A.M. (one hour prior to services) at the funeral home. Interment will follow the funeral services in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
