Mr. Loren Eugene Bembry, Sr., age 89, of Macclenny, Florida died Tuesday, Nov. 3, in the Acosta-Rau Center for Caring, Jacksonville, Fla. following a long illness. Mr. Bembry was born and raised in Macclenny, Florida and after school he joined the U.S. Navy, where he retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer in the commissary department after 23 years of service. He then went to work as food service director with the Northeast Florida State Hospital, Macclenny, Florida and retired after 23 years. He moved to San Mateo, Florida and back to Macclenny, Florida in 2005. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War and a member of the D.A.V. Chapter #20 of Lake City, Florida and the Fleet Reserve Branch #179 of Gainesville, Florida. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Lois Pierce Bembry, his son, Loren Eugene Bembry, Jr., his parents, R.J. and Alice Belotte Bembry, brothers, J.T., Rufus, Carl, Johnny, Leslie and Loyd Bembry and sisters, Isola Fiedler and Alice Crawford. Mr. Bembry is survived by two daughters, Charlotte (John) Hobbs of Glen St. Mary, Florida and Susan Lynn Bembry (Curtis Watson) of San Mateo, Florida: Grandchildren, Bryan (Lily) Hobbs, Jason (Catie) Johns, Justin Johns, Geri Hobbs and Lauren (Nick) Hicks: 15 great-grandchildren: Two brothers, Raymond Drew Bembry of Alachua, Fla. and Bill (Clara) Bembry of High Springs, Fla. A private graveside service with military honors will be held at a later date in Oak Grove Cemetery, Baker County, Florida with Rev. John Schultz officiating.
