Mrs. Margaret Ann Elizabeth Farrell “Mitzi” Nelson, age 76 of Macclenny, FL passed away Saturday, September 30th at Pruitt Health, Fleming Island, FL with her husband by her side. Mrs. Mitzi was born in Baton Rouge, LA and resided in Jacksonville, FL before moving to Baker County, FL in 1974. She was a graduate of Ribault High School, Class of 1964 and attended Celebration Baptist Church, Macclenny, FL. Mrs. Mitzi worked for the Florida Park Service for many years until her retirement in 2008. She was also the Recreation Director for Baker County from 1982-1997, building many parks in Baker County including the duck pond, volleyball courts and the girls’ softball fields. In 2009 she was awarded the Lifetime Award from the Florida Recreation and Park Association in honor of her dedication and commitment. After retirement she volunteered as the secretary for the Baptist Hospital Auxiliary Department and served as the secretary for the CSO of the Olustee Battlefield Reenactment. Mrs. Mitzi is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Elizabeth Harvey Farrell. She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Stuart Nelson: two sons, Tyler Nelson (Tamara) of Newborn, GA and Trevor Nelson (Amy) of Glen St. Mary, FL: six grandchildren, Alyssa Nelson (Mike), Karlee Courson (Daniel), Jesse Nelson, Kara Nelson, Jamie Nelson and Violet Nelson, family friend Robert Bell, and Her beloved dog, Daisy. A memorial service to honor the life of Mrs. Nelson will be held at 11 A.M., Thursday, October 5th in the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home with Pastor Elmer Crews officiating. Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 10 to 11 A.M. (one hour prior to services) at the funeral home. Final memorializationwill be by cremation.
