Marlene Blanton

Marlene West Blanton, age 87 of Glen St. Mary, Florida passed away Friday, September 17, 2021, at the Maccleny Nursing Home. She was born September 13, 1934, in Canton, Georgia to Herbert C. West and Odell Smithwick West. After graduating from Canton High School in 1950, at age 16, Marlene became a bookkeeper for Nejasco Farms Dairy, owned by Dr. Newton Jasper Coker. At age 23, while at work, Marlene met the love of her life, John Daniel Blanton, Jr, “Dan”. On Saturday, September 13, 1958, Marlene and Dan married and enjoyed a honeymoon in Cherokee, North Carolina. Married for 45 years, Marlene and Dan enjoyed raising their children, visiting with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren until Dan passed in 2003. Marlene was a member of Raiford Rd. Church, Macclenny, Florida and an active member of the Seniors Sunday School class. She was baptized at a young age and accepted Jesus Christ as her savior. As a young teenager, Marlene enjoyed going to Methodist Camp Meetings with her friends. Each morning Marlene would have her daily devotion and prayer. She would pray daily for each of her family members specifically. She was a woman of faith and an inspiration to her family. She is survived by her daughter, Dana Hartshorn and husband George of Chiefland, Florida. She is also survived by her son John Daniel Blanton III “Rocky” and his wife Denise of Glen St. Mary, Florida; her grandchildren: Mendi (Josh) Tips of Texas, Emilee Blanton and Sara Worsham of Glen St. Mary, and daughter-in-love Dana Ruth Bowen; Andi (Randy) Ransom of Trenton, Florida, Stephen Jones, Jr. of Gainesville, Florida, Deborah Jones of Trenton, Florida and son-in-love Stephen Jones, Sr. Marlene was the proud grandmother of 4 great-grandchildren, Kenzie,Parker, Reed and John Wade. A funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Blanton will be at 2 P.M. Wednesday September 22 at Raiford Road Church, Macclenny, Florida with Rev. Eddie Griffis officiating. Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 12 to 2 P.M. Wednesday at Raiford Road Church (2 hours before services). Internment will follow the funeral services in Woodlawn Cemetery.
