Mrs. Melinda Shanell Collins, age 45, of Lake City, Florida passed away on Friday, Sept. 2, at her home. Mrs. Collins was born in Miami, Florida and moved to Lake City from Homestead, Florida in 2012. She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church of Lake City. Mrs. Collins was a former clerical worker and office manager in Homestead. She was a great organizer and was attending Florida Gateway College in pursuit of an Associate’s in Arts degree. She is survived by her husband Terrence D. Collins; mother, Teresa Acevedo of Lake City, Florida; step-father, Chuck Acevedo; two sons, Robert Nolasco of Albany, New York and Wolfgang Travis of New Orleans, Louisiana; two daughters, Patrice Vazquez of Live Oak, Florida and Tamara Baker of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; brother, Grant Walker of Gainesville, Florida; one grandchild, Lillian Reese Jernigan. A memorial service to honor the life of Mrs. Collins will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, Sept. 10, in the Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, Lake City, Florida with Pastor Travis George officiating. Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 10 to 11 A.M.
