Penny Slinker Oppermann

Mrs. Penny Slinker Oppermann, age 92, of Middleburg, Florida died Thursday, Oct. 24, in the Custead Care Center, Orange Park, Florida following an extended illness. Mrs. Oppermann was born in Horse Cave, Kentucky and lived in Lake City, Florida for over 50 years before moving to the Jacksonville, Florida area. She served as an EEO counseler for the VA Hospital and traveled extensively to hear cases of discimination. She also was Safety Director for the Pentagon as well as Walter Reed Army Hospital during her career. Penny was loved by all who knew her and she had a joyous smile that lit up our world. Job 9:27 She was a member of the St. James Episcopal Church, Lake City, Florida and enjoyed the game of her life, playing bridge. She was preceded in death her parents, William J. and Ollie Mae Rinehart Slinker, brothers Bill and Jim Slinker and sisters Lorene Bender and Mildrene Slinker. She is was the cherished mother of Penny Price (John) Hixon of Orange Park, Florida and Cynthia Price (Michael) Hayes of Tampa, Florida: Grandchildren, Jessica Sauter (David), Kevin Hixon (Miriam) and Luke Hayes (Mary Katherine). Great-grandchildren, Jacob, Scott, Lia and Roy Sauter and Amelia and Leia Hixon. A funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Oppermann will be held at 2 P.M. Monday, Oct. 28, in the St. James Episcopal Church with Rector Douglas Hodsdon officiating. Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Lake City, Florida.
