Mr. Richard Thomas “Tommy” Herndon, age 79, of Macclenny, Fl, passed away peacefully on November 10, at the W. Frank Wells Nursing Home in Macclenny, FL. Mr. Herndon was born on November 25, 1938, in Frederick, MD, to the late Myron H. Herndon Sr. and the late Lottie B. Herndon. After attending Georgia Southwestern University, Mr. Herndon enlisted in the United States Army and served his country proudly and honorably until 1964. After his service, he moved back to Albany, GA and went to work for General Electric until he found his calling at State Farm Insurance in 1970. For 31 years he served the Albany community as an agent for State Farm with great caring and understanding. If you were lucky enough to have Tommy as your agent, you not only got a great mind for insurance, but you got a friend as well. He really cared for the people of Albany and would always be there in your time of need. Aside from his loving wife Kaye, his other two passions were Corvettes and RVing. Tommy could buy the worst piece of junk and transform it into the classic Vette everyone wanted. By no coincidence, when his oldest turned 16, he moved his sights to the RV world. Tommy and Kaye loved to travel the country in their RV. First dragging the kids along (kicking and screaming) and then into retirement. Kaye and Tommy traveled to every State and Canada and loved every minute of it. One of their fondest memories was the trip to Alaska with his brother Myron and his wife Karen, among others. Tommy is survived by his adored wife Mary Kaye Herndon of Columbus, GA, daughters Tracy Herndon Gordon (David), Tara Herndon Stanford (Danny) and son Richard Herndon, Jr. (Menchie), 8 grandchildren and brother, Myron H. Herndon, Jr. (Karen). Services will be held at Ft.Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, Alabama on January 11, 2019 at 2:30 EST.
