Mr. Robert Brookens, age 85, of Macclenny, FL passed away Tuesday, March 31st in the Macclenny Nursing and Rehab Center, Macclenny, FL following an extended illness. Mr. Brookens was born in New York, New York to the late George Edward and Birdie Heatherstone Brookens and was a graduate of Mamaroneck Sr. High School, Class of 1952. He lived briefly in Jacksonville, FL before moving to Baker County, FL in 1970. Mr. Brookens was a carpenter by trade and was employed by Lumber Unlimited, Jacksonville, FL for a number of years. Mr. Brookens loved to bowl, enjoyed woodworking, and liked to cook. He also loved his dog, Dingo. Mr. Brookens is preceded in death by his late wife, Sandra Mobley Brookens, and son, James Brookens. He is survived by seven daughters, Kari Doshier (Mike) and Tina Benefield (Billy) both of Macclenny, FL, Tracey King (Robert) of Jacksonville, FL, Margaret Jeanne Beal of Albany, IN, Lydia Ann Stallings (David) of Miami, FL, Elizabeth Shaw (Don) of TN, and Katherine Sweeney Hill of Colona, IL: one son, Robert Brookens, Jr. (Lisa) of Glen St. Mary, FL. Ten grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren also survive. A private graveside funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Brookens will be held at Riverside Memorial Gardens, Jacksonville, FL.
