A lifelong resident of Lake City, FL passed away early Thursday morning November 10, 2022 after a brief illness. Born February 2, 1941 in Lake City, FL to James Fletcher Bishop, Sr. and Florrie Branan Bishop. Graduated from Columbia High School in 1959, married his High School Sweetheart, LaNita Kiser. Served 2 years Active and 4 years Inactive Duty in the United States Navy. He returned to Lake City and was briefly employed with McDuffie Sporting Goods and B.G. Moore Associates. He started his employment with the Florida Department of Transportation and continued until his retirement in 1998 after 36 years.
Bobby was a longtime active member of Parkview Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and in other leadership positions. Some of his most rewarding church activities included spreading the gospel through the church’s construction team ministry. He enjoyed being a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class and participating in the Super Seniors Adult Ministry.
He was a lifetime CHS Tiger fan and followed the Tigers all over the state supporting them.
Bobby and LaNita enjoyed traveling around the country and spending time with their children, grandchildren and especially great grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, LaNita, three children, Phil (Debbie), Greg (Kathy), and Natalie (Scott) Ward. Five grandchildren, Megan (Ivey) Carter, Michael (Shannon) Bishop, Matthew (Megan) Bishop, Tabitha (Erik) Machado, and AJ Ward. Nine great grandchildren, Rylan & Kya Machado, Grady & Charlie Bishop, Karsyn & Sawyer Ward, McKenna & Mason Bishop, and Reed Carter.
He is also survived by one brother, Jimmy (Caroline) Bishop, Pensacola, FL, two sisters, Mary Farmer, Charlottesville, VA., and Kathleen (Billy) Durrance, Lake City, FL. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Bishop will be held on Monday, November 14th, at 10:30 A.M., at Parkview Baptist Church with Rev. Doyle Bell and Rev. Mike Tatem officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Cemetery, Lake City, Floridia. GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, 2659 S.W. Main Blvd., Lake City, Florida is in charge of arrangments.
