Mrs. Thelma Jean Cox, age 83, of Lake City, Florida died Tuesday, April 5, in the Suwannee Valley Care Center, Lake City, Florida following a long illness. Mrs. Cox was born in Jasper, Florida and resided in Texas before moving to Lake City, Florida in 1983. She was a former secretary with Prudential Life Insurance Company, worked at the V.A. Medical Center, Lake City, Florida and worked in Craft Shows for many years. She attended the Lake City Church of God, she enjoyed spending time with her family, shopping with her grandchildren and working with her flowers in her garden. She was preceded in death by her parents, David P. and Pearlie Crews Hurst, Sr., and four siblings, Gladys Markham, Shirley Espenship, Paul Hurst and Howard Hurst. She is survived by her daughter, Teresa (Steve) Hacht of Branford, Florida; her son, Steven Griffis of Jacksonville, Florida; four sisters, Mildred (Albert) King and Betty Mauldin French both of Lake City, Florida, Linda (Roy) Greene of Tallahassee, Florida and Nancy (A.J.) Baskette of Tennessee; Four grandchildren, Blake (Lauren) Hacht, Christian Hacht, Ally Hacht and Alexis Hacht; Three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. A private celebration of life service will be held at a later date at her daughter’s home. GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, 2659 S.W. Main Blvd., Lake City, Florida is in charge of arrangements.
