Mr. Virgil I. Smith, age 83, of Macclenny, Florida passed away on Sunday, March 26, in the Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville, Florida following an extended illness. Mr. Smith was born in Glen St. Mary, Florida and resided in Baker County, Florida all of his life. He was co-owner of the Baker County Saw Shop in Macclenny, Florida for many years until his retirement. He and his brother, Junior Smith, were awarded the #1 Snapper Lawn Mower Dealer in Northeast Florida for 8 out of 10 years between 1975-85. He loved all outdoor hobbies, particularly hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Sharon Long and Shirley Dugger, his parents, James Clarence and Gussie Combs Smith, Sr. and two siblings, Junior Smith and Lois Lyons. He is survived by three grandchildren, Michael (Meliah) Long and Brandy (Trent) Burnham both of Macclenny, Florida and Cortney (Kyle) Hall of Glen St. Mary, Florida; six great-grandchildren, Logan, Madison and Mason Burnham, Kaylee Long, Mallorie and Kyle Hall II. A graveside funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Smith will be held at 11 A.M. Friday, March 31, in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Macclenny, Florida with Rev. David Thomas, Pastor of the Christian Fellowship Temple officiating. Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday, March 30, at GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, U.S. 90 East, Macclenny, Florida.
