William “Bill” G. Redden, Jr. of Lake City, FL passed away this 30th day of March, 2022.
Bill was born on May 2, 1928, and raised in Tallassee, AL, before heading off to his
beloved University of Alabama, then finishing his education at what is now Troy State
University.
Post-graduation and after a short stint in Troy as an athletic department employee of a
local children’s home, Bill moved on to a 3-4 year stay with the Veteran’s Administration
before moving to Lake City in 1956. He was a life-long resident of Lake City from then
on, and a very proud servant to the veterans at the Lake City VA where he assisted in
their return to a more normal life.
Bill was very active from the moment he arrived in Lake City, credited with being at least
one of the few who got behind various activities for the Lake City youth, including “Teen
Town”, organizer of youth baseball leagues, President of the PTA at Melrose, and many
other activities. Locally, among the youth of our age group, he was known as “Coach
Bill” or “Coach Redden”. A title he treasured fondly.
Bill is preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Ruth (Daniell). He is survived by his
three children – Glenn (Sandy), Jerry (Margo) and Linda. He is also survived by his 6
grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Redden will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 2 at Guerry Funeral Home. Visitation is scheduled for family & close friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at
Guerry Funeral Home in Lake City, FL (2 hours before the service). Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Lake Florida. It is requested that in lieu of flowers that a donation be made to the
Lake City Humane Society in the memory of Bill & Marilyn Redden.
