William "Bill" Lyons Obituary

William “Bill” Eufa Lyons, age 91, of Macclenny, Florida entered the heavenly gates with family by his side, on January 31st, 2023. Bill was born in Lochloosa, Florida on October 31st, 1931 to the late William Ervin and Augusta Lyons. Bill graduated from Pierson High School and entered the military shortly after.  He served from 1952-1956 aboard the USS Iowa in the United States Navy.  While in the navy, Bill achieved the rank of Petty Officer 2nd class, earned five medals and was in charge of the lithography department.  As a civilian he continued the trade and later owned his own printing shop in Macclenny.

In 1957, Bill married Dixie Lee Griffis and they recently celebrated their 65th year of marriage. They were blessed with one daughter, Terri Lee (David Hair), two granddaughters, Brandi Lee (Mark Hand) and Sabrina Marie (Earl Fouraker), along with four beautiful great-granddaughters, Bailey Fouraker, Makenzie Rhoden, Sarah Fouraker and Emily Fouraker.  Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who loved spending time with his family and friends.

Throughout his life, Bill was active in the Mason Lodge, President of the local Shrine Club and enjoyed being a part of the motorcycle unit.  Bill and Dixie loved camping and to travel; seeing Hawaii and Alaska were some of the best memories made.  A highlight of Bill’s travel recently was flying to California where the USS Iowa is now a floating museum.  Bill was able to descend the stairs and stand in his original duty station aboard the ship. He was also an active member of Glen Baptist Church and loved to cheer on the Jaguars during football season. Bill and Dixie were blessed to raise their family and enter the later years with wonderful neighbors who became more like family.  Paul Vickers, Jeff Staggs, Ted Patterson, Rick Pocepowich, Wade Tyson, and Brian Wallstedt will honor Bill as the Pall bearers for his service.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Bonnie Lyons, his twin brother Richard Lyons and younger brother James Lyons.  Bill came to know Christ as a younger man and served Him throughout his life.  Christ is the only true hope.

A funeral service to honor the life of Mr. Lyons will be held at 11 A.M. Saturday, February 4 in the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home with Rev. Pat Thomas officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Macclenny, Florida. Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 10 to 11 A.M. Saturday (one hour before services) at GUERRY FUNERAL HOME, U.S. 90 East, Macclenny, Florida.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18

“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen.  For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”
