Mrs. Evelyn Thrift Barber, age 84, of Macclenny, FL died Sunday, June 26, at her home, with her family by her side. Evelyn was born on July 25, 1931 to Spencer Thrift and Betty Combs Thrift of Taylor, and resided in Baker County all of her life. On December 31, 1949, she married Joe Barber of Macclenny. Evelyn enjoyed working as a dental assistant for over twenty years for local dentists. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Macclenny. After retirement, Mrs. Barber enjoyed vacationing at her home in the Great Smokey Mountains with her husband, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Nana never missed an activity involving her great-grandchildren. Mrs. Barber is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Joe Barber, her parents, and her sister, Mildred Howe. She is survived by her son, Gary (Kathy) Barber: one daughter, Melissa (Steve) Adams: grandchildren, Tracy (Sheldon) Archambault, Todd (Jennifer) Barber, Ashlea Stuart, Lindsey Thomas and great-grandchildren, Julia, Harper, Grace, Blaine, and Kate. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. A funeral service to honor the life of Mrs. Barber will be held Wednesday, June 29 at 11 A.M., in the First Baptist Church of Macclenny, Macclenny, FL with Dr. Edsel Bone, Pastor, and Rev. Johnny Raulerson, officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 28 from 6 to 8 P.M., at the church. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Baker County, FL.
