Sarah Godwin

Sarah Jan Feightner Godwin, 72, of Macclenny died on November 5, 2017. She was born in Austin, Texas on July 25, 1945 to Jack and Nela (Hutton) Feightner and raised in Fort Madison, Iowa. She attended the University of Iowa and remained a loyal Hawkeye fan her entire life. Sarah moved to Florida in 1969 and was a bridal consultant for Mayors Jewelers in Miami before becoming a flight attendant for National Airlines. She married C. Stephen Godwin in 1973 and moved to Taylor, and taught third grade at Macclenny Elementary for 15 years. Mrs. Godwin was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake City.
She was predeceased by her husband and loved and cherished his family as her own. They were the reason she remained in Baker County.
Mrs. Godwin is survived by daughters Stephanie Godwin of Atlanta and Susanna (Jeremy) Brown of Pittsburgh, PA; sisters Betsy Hutton of Amelia Island, Susan Feightner of Ponte Vedra Beach; grandchildren Alexandra Fernandez-Godwin, Hutton and Easton Brown; niece Elizabeth (Matt) Tate of Elburn, IL and nephew Seith (Isabel) Weidner of Los Angeles; cousins Joe (Rose) Bergman of Montrose, IA, Jerry (Joyce) Bergman of Donnellson, IA and Tom (Mary) Bergman of Iowa City, IA.
The funeral service for Mrs. Godwin will be held on Friday, November 10 at 11 a.m. at the Taylor Church with Pastor Mark Woods officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service, and interment will be at Taylor Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Dr. James Foran’s research team at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville or St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital. Guerry Funeral Home of Macclenny is in charge of arrangements.
