Lota Mae Hall

Lota Mae Smith Hall, 87, passed away September 12, 2017 in Lake City, Florida due to a long illness. Lota was born in Lulu, Florida on May 11, 1930 to the late Isaiah and Bertie Wilkinson Smith. Lota grew up in Providence, Florida in a farming family and learned at an early age how hard work led to a productive life. She met her soon to be husband, Joseph Lonnie Hall, at the County Fire Department where he worked and they married in 1947. They were married 57 years until his death in 2004. Lota started working for Southern Bell Telephone Company at age 16 and worked many years before retiring after almost 40 years. She then owned and operated an antiques business for several years before going to work again at Shands Lake Shore and retiring after 10 years. Lota was a work-a-holic and always had ongoing projects. During her full-time tenure with Southern Bell she also owned and operated a fabric and sewing shop with Mary Underwood. Lota was an expert seamstress and made clothes for some of the Lake City Physicians in the 50's and 60's. She sewed for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren until recently when she could no longer use her hands well. In her spare time, she was sewing, crocheting, caning chairs, making jewelry or some other craft she had mastered. She and Lonnie loved traveling to the mountains every year with daughter Sheron and SIL Don and other family, going thrifting at flea markets and antique stores. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 2 brothers; Don Smith and Eldridge "Sox" Smith. She is survived by son, Lonnie Wayne Hall of Lake City, FL and daughters, Sheron (Don) Hogan of Lake City, FL and Kimberly (Matt) Burns of Branford, FL, her sister Annie Ash of Macclenny, FL, sister-in-law Margie Smith of Providence, FL and former DIL Debbie Hall of Lake City, FL, 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren also survive, Danielle (Jonathan) Perry of Lake City, FL; children Hannah and Jade. Ryan (Hannah) Hall of Lake City, FL; children Nolan and Braxton. Craig Adams (Martha Ferrales) of Pembroke Pines, FL; children Kaylee, Blake, and Kade Adams. Daryl (Stephanie) Adams of Orlando, FL. Clay (Jody) Roberts of Nashville, TN; children Alexa, Alyssa and Alana Roberts and Sebastian Drake Rivers. Michael Burns (Hillary Smith) of Nashville, TN. Daniel (Michelle) Hanley of Fort Bragg, NC; children Christian and Matthew. Meghan Burns of Branford, FL. Jaime (Danny) Weber of Jacksonville, FL; children Avery and Dylan. Jason Hogan of Hilton Head, SC; children Justin, Katelyn and Aiden Hogan. She is also survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews. Lota will be cremated and ashes interred at New Zion Cemetery in Lulu, Florida next to her loving husband. Any memorial contributions can be made to Haven Hospice, Lake City, FL. There will be a Celebration of her life on Saturday, September 23, 2017 in the Fellowship Hall of Southside Baptist Church, Lake City, FL from 1pm-4pm.
