Mary Diane Monds

MONDS, Mary Diane—Better known to many as “Diane” or perhaps more affectionately as “Nana”,73,  passed away on Friday July 7, 2017 at the Community Hospice Center in St. Vincent’s Riverside after a recent injury and lengthy but hard fought battle with cancer. Diane was born the fifth of six children to the late Malcolm B. Horne and Jessie Mae (Hightower) Horne on October 22, 1943 in Jacksonville, Florida at St Vincent’s Hospital. She spent most of her life in Jacksonville, going on to graduate from Paxon High School’s Class of 1961, where she played on the basketball & volleyball teams and enjoyed all other sports. She would go on to have a son, Stanley Scott “Scotty” Monds, and a long & happy career of 15 years at what would become Nimnicht Cadillac. She would later retire due to health reasons in 1999, at which time she moved to Macclenny, Florida and has resided ever since. Diane loved to tend to her plants, to spend time with her family, to go shopping, she enjoyed good music, good company, and good home-cooked food.

She is predeceased by her parents Malcolm & Jessie Mae Horne, brothers Jackie M. Horne, and Joyce F. Horne, sister Margie Horne, son Scotty Monds, nephew Billy Mattox

She is survived by sister Gayle Mann and nephew Stephen Mattox both of Ft. Worth, Texas, sister-in-law Becky Moncur of Jacksonville, Florida, niece Renee Foster of Connecticut, grandchildren Darius Fernandez-Morris, Christopher Mattox, Shayla Smith, and her very special friend Misty Phelps.

A funeral service to honor the life of Ms. Monds will be held at 11 A.M. Friday, July 14, in the Chapel of Guerry Funeral Home with Elder Arnold Johns officiating. Interment will be in Cat Creek Cemetery, Valdosta, Georgia. Visitation and gathering with the family will be from 10 to 11 A.M. Friday (one hour before services).
